Diagnosing your Writing Process Problems
Imagine that you have just been assigned a paper that is due in two weeks. List everything even remotely related to the paper that you do between when you are assigned the paper and when you hand it in. For example, click here to see what SNL’s Writing Coordinator, Michelle Navarre Cleary, did in college.
Once you have listed the steps in your writing process, go back and mark which are usually easy for you and where you run into trouble.
The steps that are difficult are where you can begin to make your writing process more manageable. Start by comparing your writing process to the inventing-organizing-drafting-revising-editing model to see where you might add, drop or adjust steps in your process. Then, click on each step you have difficultly with to learn more about that step and to get tools for overcoming your difficulties.
